Hunting and fishing complex on the basis of the worked out Podorozhnensky mine

The present state self-supporting enterprise "Podorozhnenskyy Rudnyk"" in times of the Soviet Union was a source of raw material for the Rozdil Mining and Beneficiation Complex. and million tonnes of sulphur ore were mined here by opencast method for many years which resulted in formation of a pit 100 m deep with a volume of 135 mln m3.
The opencast is stretched from the north-west to the south-east for 4 kilometers is 1.8 km wide and has a surface area of 420.3 ha.
Podorozhnensky sulphur deposit is located on the ancient terrace of the river Dnister and its tributaries Stryy and Swicha.
The sulphur opencast is being phased out now and not simply phased out but the landscape is being restored and a hunting and fishing complex is being created. Three lakes belong to this complex having the names the Northern, the Central and the Large. Chemical analysis of water in them meets the potable water standard requirements.
Overburden rock of the Podorozhnensky opencast at the beginning of the mining was moved to outside dumps located around the opencast and taking up an area of 600.7 ha. These dumps hold 138.3 m3 of soil. On the lands disturbed by mining numerous biological recesses have formed after its discontinuation and now are being rapidly filled with natural flora and fauna .A great number of lakes has been formed.
Thus within the territory of the accumulating basin wild ducks and swans are nesting. On non-recultivated dumps number of hares, foxes, roe deers, wild boars is increasing. After pit flooding and lake formation the river Krekhivka will run out of the lake and through the territory. Part of the low level territory will be transformed into a marsh suitable for wild birds nesting.
Just now a complex project of opencast recultivation is being developed in which wishes of future owners can be taken into account.
